FAQ about Chicks N Chaps

What is it?
Chicks N Chaps is an all women's rodeo clinic during the Big Sky ProRodeo Roundup. You'll get to spend time with rodeo cowboys learning how to rope, ride the buckin' machine (only if you want to) as well as basic information on what the sport of rodeo is and how it's done. It's about experiencing a bit of the western way of life.
What do I get for participating?
A really fun afternoon with your girlfriends! You'll spend about an hour and a half in the rodeo clinic with the cowboys. We have pink beer and other assorted libations and food for you to enjoy during that time and during the rodeo. We have set aside the "chick pit" area for all of the Chicks N Chaps participants to sit and watch the rodeo, which starts at 7pm. You'll also get a bag full of pink goodies for registering, a t-shirt, and some really fun memories. Registration also includes your ticket to the rodeo that night, as well as special parking near the rodeo arena for the Chicks.
Where does the money go?
Profit raised from the event will be donated to the Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute Circle of Hope Survivorship Program. Over the course of 6 years, we have raised over $25,000 through our Tough Enough To Wear Pink events, including last years Chicks N Chaps event.
What do I wear?
Anything that is comfortable for you. We do not recommend flip-flops or skirts, as you are in the dirt, and possibly climbing on the buckin' machine. You can cowgirl up with boots and jeans, or wear shorts. We don't care, and neither does anyone else. Comfort is the key.
What do I bring?
An attitude for fun. Some cash as you may want to shop in the CNC Big R boutique, or bid on items in the silent auction. It'll be warm, so bring items to beat the heat: sunscreen, hat, etc. We also encourage you to bring the name of a designated driver that can be called in case you have "too much fun." We want to make sure our Chicks stay safe and don't drink and drive.
How long does the event last?
Registration is 4:00 to 5:00 pm. The rodeo clinic is from 5:00 to 6:30. As you rotate through the clinic stations, you can grab refreshments. At 6:30 you'll be seated in the Chick Pit to enjoy the 4th performance of the Big Sky ProRodeo Roundup, which starts at 7pm. The bar is open during the rodeo, and we'll be serving dinner throughout the rodeo for the Chicks.
Will there be live animals?
Only the cowboys that are helping with the clinic! Just kidding. You'll be near the rodeo holding pens, but you won't be required to get on any live animals. In the Barrel Racing station, there will be a horse that you can ride if you'd like, but again, it's not mandatory. We'll also have the bull buckin' machine if you want to give that a try. This clinic is about having fun, learning what rodeo is about, and spending the day with girlfriends raising awareness and money in the battle against breast cancer.
